    Borobudur rises in Central Java—the world’s largest Buddhist temple.

    The Prambanan complex is built near Yogyakarta.

    Borobudur, Prambanan, and Komodo and Ujung Kulon parks become Indonesia’s first World Heritage sites.

  4. 2012

    Bali’s cultural landscape and the Subak irrigation system join the World Heritage List.

    The Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta and its historic landmarks join the World Heritage List.
