The Andaman

Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, together with 32 smaller islands in the Andaman Sea. The province covers 547 square kilometres and had 432,464 people in 2025. The Sarasin Bridge ties it to the Phang Nga mainland, and Krabi lies east across the bay. Sandy coves on the west coast, tucked between rocks, are the clearest picture of the island once you leave the signed streets of the old town. In the 1981–2010 table, September brings 361.2 millimetres, while January is 30.3, February 23.9 and December 72.4, so the turn of the year is less wet than late summer. At the Mueang Phuket station in that same table, the annual mean high is 32.5°C and the mean low is 25°C. The airport is the country’s third busiest, 32 kilometres north of Phuket city, and it handled 17,474,051 passengers in 2025. Two days on the coast are enough if you are not crossing to the islands. Add Krabi and you should budget a boat and an extra day.
