Zanzibar beach and the sailing dhow

After safari days, Unguja’s coast resets the trip’s pace: Nungwi’s pale sand, wide tides at Paje, and traditional sailing dhows leaning on turquoise water. Swim in the morning, walk with the tide where allowed, or ride a dhow in evening light. Two beach days after three or four safari days are a common, comfortable balance; stretch to four if the sea is your main aim after Stone Town. Watch tide tables before long walks on eastern sand flats, and pack sun protection; the pace here is deliberately slow after plains vehicles. Stay near the beach that suits you, because the drive between north and east takes time. Nungwi in the north suits swimming; Paje in the east suits walks on the sand at low tide. Keep the last day before your flight home calm.
