This is sunrise over the Serengeti: open plain and low light. A Tanzanian journey does not begin only on a capital avenue. It begins on wide savannah, then a volcanic crater, then a snow-capped summit, then leaps to Stone Town’s waterfront on Zanzibar. Mainland and islands share one country—that is Tanzania’s measure.
